Living in warm climates, the ankheg dwells in partially collapsed burrows usually around 40 feet underground. If an area becomes too barren, the ankheg moves on to other, more lucrative areas. Ankheg tunnels are usually filled with the remains of victims, eggs, or chitin. Their tunnels are sometimes around 60 to 150 feet long and 5 feet high. Hollow tunnel ends were used for lair purposes, such as sleeping or hibernation.
It is outside the classification of natural Fauna living in the land of Aarden. No insect should ever have grown to that size or strength naturally, and is classified as a "Wahasha" by the tribes of the Shangazi, a catch all term for the unnatural beasts that are found in the wilds.
