Three Kings

New Friends
Story so far

Sariel, Zahira, and Obenform managed to make it to their contact outside the city in a Shia encampment, but their contact, along with everyone else, was dead. Rotting corpses, tied up and carved into, littered the desert sand. As they were investigating the massacre, they heard the gongs from Turiyat, loud and clear. When they went to investigate, they found that things had gone from horrible… to sickening. There were their parents, strung up in the same manner as the Shia traders, bodies carved into and desecrated, hanging for the city to see just what awaited those who defied the Kings. The city guard immediately went into full extermination mode, with the aid of the Inquisitors, to root out and kill anyone associated with the Moonless Host.

The party managed to escape this, though just barely, and made it to the safehouse they had been to as children. They picked up some supplies, and found a letter from their parents detailing a cache of goods stashed at the Malawi Estate, on the other side of the city. 

Even though they were fugitives, they were determined not to go into the brutal, unforgiving Shangazi desert unprepared. They made their way to the Estate, long since abandoned. Obenform had heard of it before, knowing that its owners fell into financial ruin, and that squatters lived there for a number of years before suddenly deciding to leave, and its remained abandoned since. 

They also, curiously, found a halfling at the gates, seeming to try and find a way in. Before they could question him though, two other people came barreling around the corner, straight toward the gate, with guards following closely behind, along with an Inquisitor! Assuming that the enemy of my enemy is my friend, the party joined forces with these newcomers and fought off the guards and Inquisitor handily, and retreated into the Estate. 

There, they found that cache… and why the Estate had been abandoned for so long. In the tunnels beneath the estate, giant insect like monsters had tunneled in, killing all who remained at the estate. There seemed to be no way to defeat them! Only through investigation, and a bit of luck, did Obenform find a rod made of Damascus Steel that seemed to harm the monster. When things were looking grim, another of the monsters burst through the walls, joining the fight! The party retreated further down the tunnels and Sariel, being the scout in this situation, found a door, and further down, a cavern. The Damascus Steel rod was the key to the door and the party found respite… and a weapons cache full of damascus steel weapons, armor, and a small bit of wealth. They regrouped, and were able to fight off the monsters with ease. They then made sure that no others would have to suffer at the hands of these beats, and destroyed the eggs the found, much to Punkin the halflings dismay. 

 

They returned after the fight to the main level of the estate, and decided to rest their before venturing off. Sariel and Lilith, the large, gangly, teenage (but surprisingly skilled in battle) Goliath were on watch. They saw some movement over the wall and went to investigate, finding a stranger with a hood on, dusting himself off from falling over the wall to the Estate. He gruffly introduced himself as Edern, and they found he was working with the Moonless Host too. He went down to the cache, followed very closely by Zahira, to gather what remained of the supplies. Zahira attempted to flirt with Edern and though she ususally found a way to win them over, Edern didn't seem to be phased by it. 

Edern seaprated from the party, and the party rested until night, and then made their way through the city, working their way to the southern wall from the canal, when they were discovered by two Inquisitors! This fight was much harder than the first, and one was able to paralyze Sariel with magic, so he could pick off the rest! Luckily, Zahira was able to charm one with magic, causing him to double over with fits of hysterical laughing. They were eventually able to kill the inquisitors, with Obenform bravely staying by the paralyzed Sariel the entire fight, and finally dealing the killing blow. They also found that Edern was also going the same way, and was able to, with Liliths and Zahira's help, keep 8 other guards from entering the fight by keeping them occupied in the Alleyway.

He mentioned that he had a contact on a merchant ship he was going to set out on, and invited them to come. With some… non-standard negotiations with the captain, the crew was able to book passage to Mazzandir, and out of Sharakhai.

Night Delivery Pt I

Your parents have decided that you are ready to begin running missions with them now. As part of the مهتاب, the Moonless Host, they fight the tyrannical and endless rule of the three kings that have ruled Sharakhai for centuries. 

They task you to deliver three items, a package, a scroll case, and a small canister, to a contact outside the city in one of the Shia encampments. Not only that, they decide the safest time to do this is the night of beht zah'ir, the night of no moons that occurs only twice a year. A night when the Kings send their beasts out on the streets to hunt. No guards patrol the streets and no eyes to watch their route to the contact.

Zahira, Sariel, and Obenform are able to dodge trouble for a while, but one of the Kings misshapen and cursed hounds, the Asirim, catches their scent and attacks! They try to escape but while Sariel and Obenform are able to run, Zahira stays behind to finish it off and is almost killed. Obenform and Sariel, seeing their friend in danger, run back to help. They are able to kill the beast, but it howls for the other Asir in the area! Barely being able to take down one of these beasts, they make for safer grounds. During the chase, Oben and Zahira climb to the rooftops, barely escaping the jaws of two of the Asir. Sariel runs for the canal. The Asir chasing her does not get in the water, and she eventually loses it in the strong current… but also her companions as well. 

As they try to make their way back to each other, Sariel sees a man walking in the streets. She jumps to surprise and attack, but sees it is just an old man. He tells her she should not be out tonight of all nights, and takes her under the streets, in an unused sewer tunnel. He has an alcove built there. She seems safe, for now. 

Meanwhile, the other two decide to make for the encampment, expecting Sariel to come to the same conclusion and meet them there.
